Canon 50mm F/1.8 “Quick look”

by paul on July 30, 2010

I got a new 50mm F/1.8 lens for my DSLR kit. I take a look at it and give some info to those looking for information. It’s a great lens to have in your bag! You can shoot in low light and control the depth of field.

@HatroVille I have had no issue yet. It’s such a fast lens, you can hand hold it.

@nate42nd

No Zoom, not really concerns me much but no IS?, Will I have issue with handheld shots? 0.0

@HatroVille Very good choice. I ahve LOVED this lens in the 2 weeks or so I have had it. I have taken many great pics with it. WAY better quality than the lens that comes with the camera and cheaper too. (no zoom or IS though) Have a good day!

@HatroVille I have found it’s fine at 1.8. It will have a narrow depth of field….but it works fine it that’s what you’re looking for…I love it!

Is it as bad as how ppl say that it’s not usable at f/1.8?

Exactly we think alike… I don’t give much concern about the Noise as long as the lens can get the job done.

Thx for the review! XD

Good review, the 50mm F1.8 is a bargin and a must for any camera bag if you ask me. Yes the build quality is not great but at the price of it you can’t expect much.. plus if it gets damaged its not like replacing a 50mm f1.2 (Ouch!). On this body or any of the rebel / xxD bodies its an 80mm lens due to the crop factor which makes it great for portrait work. Hey Nate how about putting up a video showing some of your work with this lens? Rick

@cosmoknight74 Man…..I have been shooting all day and this thing is great! I would expect to pay at least twice as much for it. My 1st one had a scratch or piece of debris inside the lens. I took it back to the small photo shop where I got it and they happily exchanged it for a new one. It’s my favorite of my 3 lenses that’s for sure.

Wow, nice picture. I need to think about getting this lens.
Great review.
